With six days away from the 30th Hong Kong Film Award, the countdown has begun. Let us first take a look at the Best Supporting Actress nominees, including CROSSING HENNESSY (YUET MOON HIN NEI SI)'s Mimi Choo and Paw Hee Ching, GALLANTS (DA LUI TOI)'s Susan Shaw Yam Yam, CITY UNDER SIEGE (CHUEN SING GAI BEI)'s Zhang Jingchu and ONCE A GANGSTER (FEI SA FUNG JUNG SHUEN)'s Candy Yu On On. All are good actresses so the competition is fierce.

Taking a look at the five nominees, the 28th Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress Paw Hee Ching's acting has long been recognized. She has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the 19th and the 23rd Hong Kong Film Award. This time in CROSSING she appeared in heavy make up and left a deep impression. Since she has already won Best Actress she had an edge. Her CROSSING co-star Mimi Choo has been in show business for years. Her acting also belonged to the substance school. However it still is her first nomination and she is less of a favorite.

As for the 27th Hong Kong Film Award Best Supporting Actress Shaw Yam Yam with THE PYE DOG (YEH LEUNG HUEN), she is nominated this year again. The competition this time does not lack Best Actress and frequent Hong Kong Film Award nominees, seemingly her chances are half cold. On the other hand Yu On On was nominated earlier with MY NAME IS FAME (NGOR YIU SING MING). After the defeat she returns again in the same category. Her unusually trendy mob mother in ONCE was pleasantly surprising and refreshing, her chances are higher. As for the frequent Hong Kong Film Award nominee in recent years, Zhang Jingchu has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress or Best Actress at the 25th, 27th and 29th Hong Kong Film Award. Although all three times the award brushed her by, she still keeps on fighting. Against strong competition her potential should not be overlooked.
