The Hong Kong Film Directors' Guild 20th Anniversary spring banquet took place two nights ago with nearly 200 directors in attendance. The event this year presented commemorative watches to John Woo (Ng Yu Sum), John Chiang Dai Wai, Teddy Robin Kwan, Chan Koon Chung and John Shum Kin Fun, the guild's five founders, to celebrate its 20th anniversary. This year's annual awards included the Most Recommended Film of the Year: ECHOES OF THE RAINBOW (SUP YUET WAI SING), ECHOES OF THE RAINBOW (SHUI YUET SUN TAU) and OVERHEARD (SIT TING FUNG WON); the most outstanding directors of the year were Alex Law Kai Yui (ECHOES OF THE RAINBOW), Teddy Chan Tak Sum (BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS), Alan Mak Siu Fai and Felix Chong Man Keung (OVERHEARD); new director of the year was Cheung King Wai (KJ); new actor of the year gold prize went to BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS' Chris Li Yuchun, silver prize to ECHOES OF THE RAINBOW's Araif Lee Chi Ting and bronze prize went to PRINCE OF TEARS' Oceans Zhu Xuan.

President Gordon Chan Ka Seung was happy about this year's high attendance rate and revealed that earlier members discussed plans to make a commemorative film for this special occasion. Chiang Dai Wai and Law Kai Yui will be responsible. The film will be more likely to be an action film. Earlier Jackie Chan made TWIN DRAGONS (SEUNG LUNG WUI) for the Guild, which still is benefiting from its royalty. Honorary president Ng See Yuen expressed that China and Hong Kong have been working very closely in recent years. Taiwan has worked with the Mainland less. Next year will be the 100th anniversary of the Xinhai Revolution, the best opportunity for China, Hong Kong and Taiwan to work together.
