[2009.10.21] FAMOUS FILM STAR LIU LIAN PASSES AWAY

Veteran film worker and famous film star of the 50s Liu Lian passed away days ago. Liu Lian's family originated from Shandong. She was born in 1923 in Wuhan, Hubei. She spent her adolescence during the motherland's most difficult times. In order to liberate the people, she and husband Chao Yishan formed a China Upstart Japan Resistence drama troupe and promoted the war against Japanese Aggression with Yang Hansheng, Tian Han, Xia Yan and others.

After the fall of Shanghai she moved to Hong Kong. Once under the leadership of Liao Chengzhi she raised fund for the Soong Hing Ling and Ho Heung Ning hosted disaster relief fund. After the founding of the new China, she settled in Hong Kong and worked with her husband Chao Yishan in the Fei Mu operated Lung Ma comopany as an actress. She starred in films like SONS OF THE EARTH (GONG WU YI NUI). After Lung Ma company ended, she in 1950 joined the Great Wall film production company as a basic actress. For decades, she loved her country, Hong Kong and hometown and had a rather high standard of patriotism. She contributed a lot for the film art in her lifetime.
